John F. Kennedy operates on a quarterly system, and for many of our players, college is a key goal. Today, report cards were handed out, and the mood was somber. Disappointment filled the air as coaches and players alike were faced with grades that fell short. Some players even faced the harsh reality of potentially being ineligible to continue the season.
As someone deeply invested in Code Sports' mission of emphasizing the importance of academics to student-athletes, this hit me hard. It felt like a setback, like somehow, I had failed in my efforts. Back to the drawing board I went, questioning how I could make a bigger impact on these guys. Recruiting for college sports isn't just about talent on the field—it's about excelling in every aspect of life. The term "student-athlete" isn't just a label; it's a reality that they need to embrace. Their grades matter just as much as their performance on the field.
For me, this was a reminder of the holistic approach needed in guiding these young athletes. It's about instilling the importance of education and helping them understand that success extends beyond the game. So, while today may have been disappointing, it's also an opportunity for growth and recommitment to our mission.
