No "I" in TEAM

Today before practice, I got the okay from Coach Sims to talk with the team about some of the things I seen at the first game. I wanted to share some observations from our first game—mainly the behaviors and attitudes that didn’t quite line up with what we stand for as a team and a school. As I spoke, I kept an eye on how the guys were taking it positively. Most seemed receptive, and focused, but there were a couple who seemed less engaged, almost like they didn’t think the message applied to them.

These are the guys I’m planning to watch more closely. In my experience, for a team to really stick together and succeed, it’s crucial that everyone is on the same page. Right now, it feels like we as a team have a bit of work to do to get to that point.

The best teams I’ve seen are the ones where every player is committed not just to playing well individually but to working together as a unit. It’s not only about how skilled you are but also about your attitude and willingness to support your teammates. So, in the coming weeks, we’re going to focus not just on improving our physical game but also on fostering a stronger sense of teamwork and mutual support.

Getting everyone to buy into this mentality might be a bit of a challenge, but I’m ready for it. Building a strong, unified team is about more than just practice; it’s about shaping a positive, collective mindset.
