First Game / First Loss

At John F. Kennedy High School's first game day, things didn’t go as planned. The team faced a tough loss, but what really caught my attention wasn’t the scoreboard. But was how the team handled the loss. There was this negative vibe - bad body language, teammates arguing during and after the game. It was way off from what I know to being a winning culture. I didn’t jump in with comments right there; figured it was something to address in practice instead . a

This whole situation really highlighted a  something crucial point - the importance of sticking together and not letting frustration turn into selfish actions. These are exactly the kind of traits that were not allowed on successful teams  in team sports, let alone if you’re aiming for collegiate levels prospect. It’s a big lesson in how sports are more than just playing the game; they're about how you carry yourself through the ups and downs.

Moving forward, it’s clear we’ve got some work to do beyond the simple functions of throwing a baseball and hitting the ball.  We need to get back to the basics of what makes a team a team - supporting each other, staying positive, and remembering that we win or lose together. The truth is failure is going to happen but the successful cultures are the ones who know how to handle it and move forward.
