Today I attended coaches' meeting where they sat down and talked about the player's performance, work ethic, academic standing, reviewed scheduling, and how they felt about the potential of the team. These were some good conversations to be a part of because I was able to understand the process of decision-making into who plays what position and why. I found it interesting that not always the player with the most talent was the player that was looked at most favorably. Sometimes the coaches liked the players because they were reliable and simply did the right thing, I could relate to this because sometimes that was the case when I coached at LSU. They also talked about the future development of the team, meaning that should they play the younger freshman or sophomore in hopes they could develop him over the next two years versus playing the senior who appears to already be tapped out and won't be on the team next year.
When it came to discussing scheduling there were some really good conversations about the teams that had to play and predicting wh

ether or not they will make the playoffs. The first official game was in two weeks against John Ehret and that was a big game for them to win. Overall today was more about handling the construction of the team, and knocking out all of the formal things before we gear up to play the season but was very informative and productive to see how that process happens.
