How you do anything is how you do everything, is one of my favorite phrases when it comes down to checking yourself and your standards when it comes to work ethic. Today I spent the day at the high school before practice while the students were still in school, in Mr. Sims's class. I have seen quite a few of the players roaming the hallway, and acting on commital to school in my opinion. Quite a few of them are lazy in their approach to class and appear to simply not care. I know they know they need good grades to be able to attend college but it didn't appear that that was at the forefront of their mind. They appeared to be more concerned with the image that they were trying to uphold for being cool. For me, this was an issue because you can't say you are trying to play college baseball but not make the effort to make the grades. In my opinion, both can not be true. So after observing this I pulled a couple of the guys to the side and told them I was not happy with their school approach, I was met with nonchalant attitudes which was to be expected but it helped set another perspective for me of how and do these guys want. it. I can honestly say I rubbed a couple of the guys the wrong way with this talk but I also believe in tough love and in time they will see how correct I was about their academics.
